  • Sourced from a parcel in the western part of Elgin the CY95 clone is known for its excellent quality, creating wines that are aromatic, fuller bodied and rich yet tightly structured, well–balanced with length of flavour, managing to show restraint and mouth-watering passivity with a great line through the palate and fruit veering towards white peach flesh and nectarine. The Bokkeveld Shale brings amplified perfume on the nose and persistence and elegance to the palate. In 2019, the wine is pale straw colour with elevated aromas of oyster shells, citrus, wet stones and white flowers with subtle oak spices. A cleansing fresh acidity on which sits ripe yet delicate fruit: white grapefruit, lemon slices, mineral, white peach and light pineapple. A dryness persists throughout the palate fluctuating between a textural pithiness and sea salt tang. There is a linear chiselled feel to the wine with some oatmeal creaminess giving succour to the palate and intrigue to the elongated finish.
