Clonal selection elgin chardonnay

restrained, mineral style focussed on elegance

100% Chardonnay made from Dijon clones CY96, CY95, CY76 and the Entav clone CY548.

RK by SW168.png

Restrained, mineral style focussed on elegance with a white fruit character, some oatmeal and some complexity gained from percipient applied wood.

Selected from 8 small parcels of Chardonnay.

The wine rested in barrel for eleven months. A small number of artisanal coopers were selected, all from Burgundy and only French oak was chosen. Importantly, each clone and soil type was micro vinified as separate batches. Each batch used an algorithm that we have developed to ascertain which coopers work best and how many new and used barrels are utilised. Overall, the average in 2019 was 42.1% new oak; 89.8% 228 l and 10.2% 500 l.

Sophisticated, finely crafted & already showing easy harmony. Lemony flavours subtle

though deep, enlivened by complementary acid; comfortable weight; finish clean & long.

Full-throttle nose offers a broad spectrum of ripe Chardonnay fruit with massive finesse on the palate and just the right amount of acidity. It’s not as austere as the Mount Mary Yarra Chardonnay 2019 I happen to have to hand, and may not last as long, but it is beautifully made with both ripeness and restraint in evidence. Comfortingly long. And it’s not a copy of burgundy! It’s its own expression, of Elgin Chardonnay. 2021-2026.

Subtle, textured and refreshing, with aniseed, citrus and cinnamon spice, subtle gunflint top notes and a smoky finish. 2021-26.
