Kershaw Elgin Chardonnay 2020 copy.jpg

Restrained, mineral style focussed on elegance with a white fruit character, some oatmeal and some complexity gained from percipient applied wood.

Selected from 8 small parcels of Chardonnay.

The wine rested in barrel for eleven months. A small number of artisanal coopers were selected, all from Burgundy and only French oak was chosen. Importantly, each clone and soil type was micro vinified as separate batches. Each batch used an algorithm that we have developed to ascertain which coopers work best and how many new and used barrels are utilised. Overall, the average in 2019 was 53% new oak; 100% 228 l barrels.

95 points

Sophisticated, finely crafted & already showing easy harmony. Lemony flavours subtle

though deep, enlivened by complementary acid; comfortable weight; finish clean & long.

Orange zest, patisserie and crème fraîche flavours are supported and freshened by chiselled acidity. 2023-30.

Decanter

90/100

Full of ripe, almost pruned fruit characters; apricots, lemon sherbet, smokey whiff, salted caramel and sweet oak. Arresting acidity and well-judged oak.
