Sourced from the western part of Elgin, known as the Lake District, this clone produces wines that are nervous, aromatic, elegant and crisp with slightly lower alcohol and finely balanced, the fruit profile being subtle with hints of citrus/orange peel and peach blossom and with time, some nutty elements.

The wine rested in barrel for 11 months.

A small number of artisanal coopers were selected, all from Burgundy and only French oak was chosen. In 2020, 100% was new oak; 100% using 228 litre barrels.

95/100

"It ages the best" is Richard Kershaw's verdict on this clonal selection from Bokkeveld shale soils and I think he may be right. Pure, sappy, chiselled and stony, with fine oak and lemongrass and citrus core, this is the kind of thing that would shine in a comparative tasting with a set of Chablis Grands Crus. 2023-32.
